From 1977 to 1983 she was a senior lecturer at Oxford Brookes University. Baroness D'Souza founded and directed the International Disaster Institute, based in London, and from 1978-1984 she was Editor of 'Disasters', the senior journal in the field of disaster risk reduction.

Eric Dykes

Eric DykesSmallA physics graduate with a PhD (University of London) in the crystal chemistry of apatites, the major mineral component of bones and teeth, Eric was a lecturer in Dental Anatomy at the London Hospital Medical College (LHMC) before becoming the Director of the Civil Emergency Management Centre (CEMC) at the University of Hertfordshire (UH) until his 2003 retirement.

Tony Moore

TonyMooreSmallA former soldier, senior police officer and pseudo-academic, Tony was latterly the Associate Director of the Resilience Centre at Cranfield University based at the UK Defence Academy at Shrivenham for a number of years where he taught on a number of Masters’ programmes, including the Master of Defence Administration (MDA), MSc in Global Security and its distance learning counterpart, the MSc in International Security; and the MSc in Disaster Management and its sequel, the MSc in Resilience. For six years, from 1998 to 2003, he was Director of the annual International Disaster Management Course.

Sarah Schubert SmallPassionate about ICPEM’s vision – to be an independent collaborating forum from which emergency professionals, academics and business will collectively champion civil protection and emergency management – Sarah’s active association commenced in 2018. She delivered the first annual conference along with the Institute’s Journal, Alert, and newsletter, all of which had been dormant for three years. More recently as a key member of the Board of Trustees, she has worked to secure the future of the Institute in the absence of the Executive Council.

Richard GordonAfter a successful career in the army during which he was awarded an MBE, Richard joined the Bournemouth University Disaster Management Centre (BUDMC) in 2002, becoming its Director in May 2005. Since then, the Disaster Management Centre has grown considerably, now employing six members of staff and six associate members.

He completed his 32 year career with Sussex Police in May 2019 finishing as the Emergency Planning Manager and Brexit Coordinator for both Surrey & Sussex Police. He is now the Emergency Planning Manager for Mid Sussex District Council.

John Lawal

John was a London Borough Emergency Planning Officer for 15 years, during which he was also the Chair of the North East London Emergency Planning Group (NELEPG) and Chair of his Council’s Corporate Security Group. He was also one of the out-of-hours Duty Emergency Response Officers, responding to all types of emergencies arising in the Borough. A high point of his career was being selected to represent the London Emergency Planning Officers on a visit to Buckingham Palace where he met Her Majesty the Queen and other members of the royal family.
