From 1977 to 1983 she was a senior lecturer at Oxford Brookes University. Baroness D'Souza founded and directed the International Disaster Institute, based in London, and from 1978-1984 she was Editor of 'Disasters', the senior journal in the field of disaster risk reduction.

TonyMooreSmallA former soldier, senior police officer and pseudo-academic, Tony was latterly the Associate Director of the Resilience Centre at Cranfield University based at the UK Defence Academy at Shrivenham for a number of years where he taught on a number of Masters’ programmes, including the Master of Defence Administration (MDA), MSc in Global Security and its distance learning counterpart, the MSc in International Security; and the MSc in Disaster Management and its sequel, the MSc in Resilience. For six years, from 1998 to 2003, he was Director of the annual International Disaster Management Course.

Arrangements for the Election of Officers to the Executive Committee 

In order to ensure open and transparent elections for all Officer posts for the forthcoming Annual General Meeting, any eligible member who wishes to stand for election for one of the available posts can submit their expression of interest.

As part of this year’s election process all nominees will be required to complete the expression of interest survey and provide a photo and short biography of their experience and what they feel they can bring to the Institute in terms of skills and expertise. All existing Officers will be up for re-election as their periods in office have either expired, or have not been voted on at a quorate meeting of members and officers.

richard-cocks-smRichard served in the London Ambulance Service for 33 years and the Health Protection Agency for 2 years. He was a founder member of the LAS Emergency Planning Unit. He attended events and major incidents in London either as Ambulance Silver or as the Ambulance Tactical Advisor. He was also a member of various safety groups including Wembley Stadium and Heathrow Airport.

John Lawal

John was a London Borough Emergency Planning Officer for 15 years, during which he was also the Chair of the North East London Emergency Planning Group (NELEPG) and Chair of his Council’s Corporate Security Group. He was also one of the out-of-hours Duty Emergency Response Officers, responding to all types of emergencies arising in the Borough. A high point of his career was being selected to represent the London Emergency Planning Officers on a visit to Buckingham Palace where he met Her Majesty the Queen and other members of the royal family.
